Limited English Lerners

English Learners are growing both locally and nationally. These individuals have a wide range of skills to augument in fulfilling their educational and employment journeys. Professionals working with EL's can use these recommended resources to address barriers and identify strategies to assist students in achieving their educational and employment journeys.

Definition

  • A secondary school student who is an English learner as defined in section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary School Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C 7801) or
  • An adult or an out-of-school youth who has limited ability in speaking, reading, writing, or understanding the English language and whose native language is a language other than English; who lives in a family environment in which a language other than English is the dominant language
